「速読の時は最低半分から、を目安にするのが良い」...これは言語には関係ないアドバイスなよう。「最低半分」でも「半分以上」でも、がんばって難しいモノを読めという意味合いはありません。パッと見て、最低半分位はわかりそうだな、と思えるモノを選ぼうという意味です。

【甲子園】見出しにこんな差が

京都国際高校が夏の甲子園で優勝しました。「国際」という言葉が好きで興味が引かれ調べると、もとは所謂「朝鮮人学校」だったらしいです。さらに調べて分かったことで、ぜひ伝えたい意外なことが2点。一つは英字新聞の伝え方。新聞により伝え方が微妙に、でも意味深に違うんです。

英語には「行ってきます、ただいま」「行ってらっしゃい、おかえり」という挨拶がない。家の出入りに、「Bye, Hello」って言うんですよね。これって「さよなら、こんにちは」って言っている。日本で家を出る時に玄関で「さよなら」帰宅時に「こんにちは」とは言いません
