I want to share something fun with you today – a cool English song called “I’ll Follow Him.” You might know it if you’ve seen some movies.
What’s really interesting about this song is that it was originally sung in four different languages. Each version became super popular in many European countries like France, Belgium, Italy, and Germany in 1962. In the United States in 1963, a singer named Peggy March, who was only 15 years old, made it the most popular single song. She still holds that record today!
Now, here’s a cool fact: one of the versions, the German one, is about two lovers saying goodbye. It’s different from the other three, which are happy love songs.
Why do you think the German version turned out to be a sad song? I thought of two reasons.
First, the German language is known for sounding a bit somber and heavy compared to the other three. Maybe that fits better with a sad goodbye theme.
The second reason is that the melody and harmony of the song itself might have a touch of sadness. In the German version, this sadness stands out more, thanks to the unique qualities of the German language.
Anyway, I believe this song is a great way to have fun while learning English. So, enjoy singing it and learning English at the same time!
