Dear Readers,
I saw an interesting TV show about bookstores in New York. These small bookstores are becoming popular. They offer fun events like book readings and parties.
What surprised me most was that people could eat and drink while reading books! In Japan, we usually can’t do this in bookstores or libraries.
I decided to learn more about eating and drinking in American libraries. I looked at three libraries.
First, the New York Public Library has a café called Amy’s Bread. You can enjoy coffee and snacks while reading. It looks very nice!
Second, the Boston Public Library even allows weddings!
Third, I asked about a small library in Eau Claire, where I studied long ago. They said people can buy small snacks and drinks from the two vending machines. This helps make the library friendly for everyone, including homeless people who need a place to stay during the day.
I was surprised to learn that American libraries are so kind. They think about people who have nowhere else to go. Japanese libraries don’t do this yet.
I’m happy I learned this difference between Japan and America. It was fun to share with you!
See you next time,
Jiro
