I have a story to share with you. I got tricked by someone online, and I lost 120,000 yen. It happened when my computer was having trouble, and things got confusing. The person who tricked me asked for money to fix my computer. At first, they only asked for 30,000 yen, which seemed low and believable. But if they had asked for 300,000 yen, I would have realized it was a scam right away!
But you know what? Even in bad situations, there’s always something good. I started reading a book by someone named Zehr. The book talks about a new kind of justice system called “restorative justice.” In this system, both the person who did something wrong (the culprit) and the person who was harmed (the victim) can meet. They can talk about what happened, ask questions, and even say sorry and talk about compensation. They do this with the help of someone neutral, who is there to make sure everything is fair. This system helps repair the damage that was done to their relationship.
In the normal justice system, the focus is usually on the person who broke the law, not the person who was hurt. Victims often don’t know what’s happening with the case or why it happened. This makes it hard for them to move on with their lives.
But in some places, like Europe and America, they’ve started using this restorative justice system. And it’s making a big difference! In one city in the United States called Longmont, the number of crimes dropped a lot after they started using this system. And the people who went through it said they were really happy with the results!
So, my advice to you is to be careful online and don’t trust people too easily. And also, try reading books in English. It can help you learn new things and see the world in a different way.
